Terms of Service
Last updated: 16 September 2026
1. What Find A Teacher does
Find A Teacher (“we”, “us”, “the platform”) is a marketplace that connects clients looking for a teacher with independent teachers offering their services. We are not a party to any lesson, agreement, or payment arranged between a client and a teacher, and we are not an employer, agent, or tutoring service ourselves. Once you connect with someone through the platform, the arrangement — scheduling, fees, conduct, and quality of teaching — is between you and them.
2. Accounts and eligibility
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep it up to date. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, whether you're signing up as a client or as a teacher. Accounts are personal to you and may not be shared or transferred.
3. Posting requests and bidding
Clients may post requests describing what they're looking for at no cost. Teachers may bid on requests by offering their own price and a message. Each teacher receives a number of free bids each month, and further bids cost coins. Placing a bid does not guarantee a response, a hire, a lesson, or any particular outcome, and choosing a teacher does not guarantee one either. A request accepts a limited number of bids and closes automatically if it is not filled within 30 days. Conversations take place through Find A Teacher's messaging, and to protect both sides we may automatically remove phone numbers, email addresses and links from messages.
4. Coins and payments
Coins are purchased through our payment processor and spent within the platform to place bids once your free monthly bids have been used. Coin purchases are generally non-refundable once completed, except where required by applicable law. Prices, coin costs, free-bid allowances, and how pricing is calculated may change at any time; changes apply to purchases and bids made after the change takes effect.
5. Protected payments
Clients are encouraged to pay for lessons through Find A Teacher. When a client pays for a milestone of an agreed contract, the money is held for that milestone and released to the teacher as the work is approved. A milestone is worth at least one month of work. Forty per cent of a contract's first milestone is released to the teacher automatically fourteen days after it is paid for, unless the client raises a dispute before then. A teacher can mark a milestone as delivered at any time, and the client can approve it straight away. If the client neither approves nor raises a dispute, the money still held for that milestone is released to the teacher ninety-six hours after delivery, but never before fourteen days after the milestone was paid for. Raising a dispute freezes what is still held on the milestone until we have reviewed it, and we may refund, release or split the money based on what both sides tell us.
Find A Teacher takes a commission from what is released to the teacher, at a rate that falls as the teacher earns more through the platform; the current rate is shown to teachers when they bid and when they write a contract. The client pays the payment processing fee on top of the milestone amount, and the fee is shown before they pay. Payment processing fees are generally not refundable. Payments are made to a teacher's own bank account, which must be in the same name as their profile. Money paid to a teacher outside the platform is not covered by these protections.
6. Verification
Teachers and clients may verify their identity using a National Identification Number (NIN), and teachers may verify professional credentials through a third-party verification service. We require a phone number on record for every account, so that we can resolve problems between users. A verification badge reflects that a specific check was completed successfully — it is not a guarantee of teaching quality, character, or fitness to teach, and you should exercise your own judgment before engaging any teacher.
7. Conduct
You agree not to use the platform to harass, defraud, or misrepresent yourself to other users, post false or misleading requests or profiles, or attempt to circumvent our pricing by asking others to do so on your behalf. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
8. No warranty; limitation of liability
The platform is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee the accuracy of anything a user posts about themselves, the outcome of any lesson or arrangement, or that the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform or your dealings with other users.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after an update means you accept the revised terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
