1. Information we collect

When you use Find A Teacher, we collect information you give us directly — your name, email address, password, WhatsApp number and country code, city, and, for teachers, profile details such as bio, subjects taught, years of experience, a profile photo. Clients and teachers may also provide a National Identification Number (NIN) to verify their identity. We also collect information about your activity on the platform, such as requests you post, bids you place, messages you send through the platform, your coin balance and transaction history, and, for payments made through the platform, the milestones paid for, the amounts released and refunded, and, for teachers, the bank name, name on the account and last four digits of the account where they are paid. We also keep the reviews you write and receive after a contract is complete, and, for teachers who connect Akowe Credenza, the title, issuer, dates and verification status of the credentials they choose to share.

2. How we use it

We use this information to operate the platform: matching clients with teachers, letting teachers bid on requests, providing messaging between clients and teachers, processing coin purchases, verifying identity, sending account and transactional emails (like verification links and alerts about new requests that match a teacher's subjects), resolving disputes between users, and keeping the platform safe from misuse.

3. Who we share it with

We share information with a small number of service providers who help us run the platform: a payment processor (Paystack) to handle coin purchases, client payments for milestones and payouts to teachers, an identity verification provider to check submitted NINs, and Akowe Credenza, which checks the professional and academic credentials of teachers who connect it (we receive only the credentials they choose to share). Your phone number, email address and NIN are kept on record and are not shown to other users on Find A Teacher. A client's review of a teacher is shown on the teacher's public profile; a teacher's review of a client is shown only to other teachers and to that client. Messages you send are visible to the other person in that conversation, and we may review them to keep the platform safe and to resolve disputes. We don't share your information with anyone else for marketing purposes, and we don't sell your data.

4. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution obligations. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time, subject to those obligations.

5. Your rights

You can access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information by contacting us. You can also update most of your profile information directly from your account settings at any time.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your session. We also use Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies, to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people find us, and how many sign up, post requests or send offers. It does not receive your name, email address or the content of your messages, and we don't use it for advertising. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
